Zoysia isn’t the fastest kid on the block when it comes to growing. It takes a little longer to fully establish compared to other grasses, usually a few months. But once it’s settled in, it’s rock solid.
Yes. Because it’s a slow grower with a thick, strong root system, it’s perfect for slopes and uneven ground. Helps keep the soil in place, too.
You can, but most people don’t. It’s much easier (and quicker) to install Zoysia grass as turf rolls. Zoysia will take over 2 years to establish from seeds, and could result in a patchy lawn if not planted right.
It’s fairly flexible, but we do recommend an 80/20 soil. Of course, like any plant, it’ll always be happiest if you prep the soil a bit before laying the turf.
Definitely. Zoysia is soft underfoot, so it’s nice for bare feet straight out of the water.
It’s tough enough to cope with a bit of roughhousing and soft enough that your pets will love lying on it… unless you have a small grassed area – in these instances we would not recommend it.
It can, but it still needs a bit of sun to stay happy. About 4–5 hours of direct sunlight a day is the sweet spot. If your backyard’s dark and gloomy all day long, you might need to look at a more shade-tolerant grass instead.
Best to keep it between 2.5cm to 5cm high. Don’t scalp it too short. Zoysia prefers to keep a bit of leaf on. Plus, a slightly longer lawn helps it hold moisture better in the heat.
