What is Nara Native Zoysia?

Nara Native Zoysia is a specially developed variety of the Australian native plant Zoysia macrantha. It is commonly found throughout the eastern regions of the country, from Northern Queensland to Tasmania, and as far inland as Central Australia. Nara Native is known for its deep green colour and a soft, fine-to-medium leaf texture.

Why Choose Nara Native Zoysia

Nara Native Zoysia is an ideal choice for a variety of Australian climates and lifestyles. Choosing this lawn type will provide you with several distinct advantages.

Key Benefits of a Nara Native lawn:

  • Easy to maintain – Only low fertiliser usage and a mow every few weeks, and you’re sorted.
  • Tough in dry times – With deep roots, a Nara lawn handles drought like a champ and bounces back fast when the rain returns.
  • Good salt tolerance– Strong enough to handle salt spray, making it ideal for coastal or beachfront homes
  • Weather-adaptable – From hot and humid conditions to sudden downpours, this grass rolls with the punches.
  • Weed-fighter – Grows nice and dense, helping prevent weeds before they take hold.
  • Pest-resistant – Resists common nasties like lawn grubs and black beetle, and recovers fast if they do nibble.
  • Kid and pet-friendly – Built to handle foot traffic, backyard cricket, and zoomies without wearing out.
  • Vibrant and good-looking – Even with minimal care, it keeps that rich green colour and soft look.
  • Saves you money – Less mowing, watering, and chemical use means less spent on upkeep in the long run.

Mowing tip: Cut to 35–45mm in sun and not shorter than that, especially during drought

Common Questions About Nara Native

Got questions about Nara Native Zoysia grass? No worries, we’ve got the answers!

Depending on weather conditions, Nara grass typically establishes within 6 to 12 months. During its growth, it is important to keep the lawn watered and to prevent too much foot traffic.

Nara grows into a really dense lawn naturally. This helps prevent a layer of dead grass, roots, and other organic matter from forming. However, if in case a layer starts to build, light dethatching done every few years is enough to prevent thatch buildup.

Nara is not commonly available in seed form so it is propagated through sod, plugs, or stolons.

The best type of soil for Nara grass is well-drained sandy or loamy soils with a pH of 6 to 7. This variety can be installed in most soil types, but it does better in slightly acidic to neutral soil.

Due to its slow growth and dense, low-growing nature, Nara grass is not ideal for high-precision turf such as lawn bowling greens or golf courses. It’s better suited for general lawn use in residential settings.
